Plastic Free Pambula

Be part of the solution, not part of the pollution.

Let’s embrace the challenge to reduce our reliance on single-use plastic, and find sustainable alternatives. Many Pambula businesses have already committed to this goal and the aim is to be a town known for our conscious decision to actively contribute to reducing the amount of single use plastics finding their way to our beautiful beaches.

Plastic Free Pambula aims to inspire our community to ditch single use plastic, (straws, water bottles, bags and coffee cups are a good place to start) and support Pambula businesses that have replaced single use plastics in their products and services with eco friendly alternatives.

Plastic Free Pambula is a new initiative by the Social Justice Advocates Environment Group, supported by Pambula Business Chamber.

There is wide range of single use, disposable plastic items that should be avoided or replaced.

PLASTIC FREE PAMBULA has identified a list of six priority plastic items that should be dealt with first:

  • Water bottles
  • Coffee cups/lids
  • Straws
  • Takeaway containers
  • Foodware (cutlery, cups, plates, lids, etc.)
  • Plastic bags.

These items particularly form a prolific and/or problematic part of the litter stream, and there are available alternatives to their use.

According to the Greenpeace report (Plastic Debris in the World’s Oceans, 2006), the world produces 260 million tonnes of plastic per year, of which around 10% ends up in the ocean.
